If you’re like me, you want to end your day in a clean space- free from clutter, with just the right amount of decor to inspire your eyes with. It would also be nice if you can have the decors for cheap and the best answer for that would be DIY. I won’t suggest DIY that would consume your time though. Like most, I work full time and if a DIY project would save me both money and time, that’s what I’ll go for. So hope this helps. Happy decorating! 🙂 ♥
1. Dried Flowers
This is a very easy one. I don’t know about you but I love seeing my baby’s breath on my bud vase or hanging in my gallery wall. It gives a rustic , natural vibe and is easy to do. It is still best to research on how to dry a specific flower but for the one I dried, I simply cut the flowers to the length I like and dry it away from sunlight.
2. Glass Jars
Clear bottles and jars are so versatile you can do anything to use them as decor. For me, I would simply fill them with pretty stones and place candle or dried flowers and it’s good to go. I’ve seen Pinterest projects where they are made to be lamps, chandeliers, flower vases, and what have you but such projects have to be done in stages if you don’t have much time to spend.
3. Old Frames
When I got married, we used photo frames as our table number holder and so I have 9 frames I can use to put pictures on. If you don’t have one, these can also be found in thrift stores or you can ask mom if they have old ones they’re not using anymore. You don’t have to place standard photos in them as you can place printed fabrics, dried flowers, Scrabble tiles, printed quotations, etc.
4. Metal Wall Grid
For a small price, you can purchase metal grids at shopping centers or hardware , hang it and design your way. You can use wooden pegs to hang your favorite photos, printables, flowers, sketches, what have you. What’s nice about this project is it allows you to set up a theme according to your liking . Some even use this as their visual board for the year to get them inspired. You can just easily update the theme when you want to.
5. Ladder
Look at what this simple ladder can do! It can be your blanket ladder, you may hang small faux plants, photos, wooden letters , or tie ribbons in them perhaps? The possibilities are endless and they’re really nice to look at.
6. Plants – Faux Plants
Plants have really its own way of lighting up a room- for me, it makes me feel one with nature and gives airy vibe making the room bright and just calming. The problem with me though is that I am not good in keeping plants alive and has no time to maintain them. My solution is that I bought different faux plants and put them together according to my liking. For the one I made, I’ve made vines out of them and hang them on my wall together with our wedding pictures. The look doesn’t get old as you would expect from a natural look. This picture here (with real plants) is one good inspiration. In fact, inspiration for plant decors are everywhere. Try it and you would see how refreshing they will make your room look.
7. Book Stacks
With the right color combinations, arranging your books can be a DIY decor in itself. You only have to rearrange them on your few minutes to spare to change the looks if you want to. You may also use mugs/bottles as book stoppers and place photos on top to add more glam.
8. Calligraphy and Printables
No, you don’t have to have a very good handwriting or take a calligraphy class. There are many printables available for you to choose from and with the help of your good old printer, you already have your favorite quote or tweet hanging on your wall. See how pretty that ampersand print looks! Of course you know how to do that! 😉
9. Old Magazines
Old magazines pile up and sometimes you just feel like you have to throw them away. But wait, there is so much more you can do with them like hanging your favorite pictures on a clip board or placing the magazines in a pretty bin for your visitors to browse. The images there are taken by professional photographers so you can always get beautiful pictures from them.
10. Personalized Candles
I would not recommend for you to carve or design your own candles. But to add some sort of glamour, you can place your candle in a ceramic plate or a pretty transparent mug and print some beautiful quote or your name perhaps and tape it in your mug. Candles are very classy. Scented or not, it gives the vibe of calmness and simply relaxes one’s mood.
